This guide explains how to report on gifted memberships using the following data mapping setup. It covers gifted membership purchases via ACME, but the same logic applies to gifted memberships synced from other platforms like Ticketure. The ACME integration update imports gifted memberships into Alpine as two distinct Actions.
-
Donation action on the gifter's record for the full membership amount
-
$0 membership action on the recipient's record representing benefit eligibility
This documentation clarifies each record's meaning, its reporting impact, and how to generate accurate donor and membership reports.
1. Understanding the Data Structure
Gifted memberships split information across two Constituent profiles:
Gifter Record
-
Contains the gift (a Donation Action) that paid for the membership
-
This Action includes core details such as:
-
Action Date
-
Gifted membership amount
-
Recipient information in the note section.
-
A Campaign indicating this Action ties to a gifted membership
-
Recipient Record
-
Contains the $0 Membership Payment Action
-
Represents who receives the membership benefits
-
A Campaign indicating this Action ties to a gifted membership
2. Reporting on Donors Who Purchased Gift Memberships
Identifying who purchased gift memberships and the revenue generated is straightforward, often achievable with a single Campaign reporting filter. On the Constituent reporting page, follow these steps:
-
Click the Choose Filter dropdown
-
Select Campaigns
-
Search for Campaigns that “contain” [ACME] Donations: Gifted Membership

4. Set the Action type from the dropdown to equal Donation

5. Update the date filter as needed.
TIP: Combine gift membership revenue in one report. To understand total membership revenue, including gifted memberships, build a combined report that pulls:
-
Donations with the [ACME] Donations: Gifted Membership campaign
-
Paid memberships actions for standard memberships
3. Reporting on Recipients of Gift Memberships
To see who currently holds memberships (gifted or paid), run a Membership Report based on the membership action. On the Constituent reporting page, follow these steps:
-
Click the Choose Filter dropdown
-
Select Campaigns
-
Search for Campaigns that “contain” [ACME] Memberships: Gift Membership

- 4. Set the Action type from the dropdown to equal Membership Payments

- 5. Update the date filter as needed.
NOTE: $0 Memberships Are Still Active Memberships. Even though the membership action is $0, it still counts as an active membership for benefit access and renewal targeting. Remember to use Campaign filters instead of amount filters when building membership lists.
Warning: Renewal reports may mix gifted and paid members. Due to the dual donation and membership action structure for gift memberships in Alpine, it’s advised to separate gift recipients from paying members in renewal lists by filtering on the campaign assigned to the membership action.
