How to Edit an Existing Touchpoint
Overview
Pro Tips / Common Mistakes
This guide explains how to modify an existing stewardship touchpoint in Humanitru, including changing the trigger conditions, updating the delivery action, or editing the email template.
When to Use This GuideUse this guide when you need to update any part of an existing touchpoint. For example, changing the milestone amount, switching the delivery channel, updating the email copy, or adjusting the trigger delay.
Step-by-Step InstructionsPart A: Open the Touchpoint Editor
- Navigate to Stewardship in the left-hand navigation menu.
- Locate the touchpoint you want to edit.
- Click the Configure button on the right side of the touchpoint row. The configuration modal opens, displaying all current settings.

Part B: Edit the WHEN Trigger
- To change the trigger type, select a new trigger option.
- To modify trigger parameters (such as the milestone amount or delay), update the values in the parameter fields.
- To add or remove tag filters, use the filter section below the trigger parameters.
Note: Changing the trigger type on an active touchpoint takes effect immediately. Any constituents who meet the new trigger conditions will be evaluated on the next trigger cycle.
Part C: Edit the THEN Delivery Action
- To change the delivery channel, click the channel dropdown and select a different option (Email, SMS, Letter, or Profile Note).
- If keeping the same channel, simply update the content (email copy, SMS text, Letter copy, or note content).
Part D: Save Your Changes
- Review all changes in the configuration modal to ensure accuracy.
- Click Save to apply changes. The updated touchpoint takes effect immediately for Active touchpoints.
- If you made significant changes to the trigger logic, consider switching the touchpoint to Dry Run mode temporarily to validate the new conditions before reactivating.
Pro Tips / Common Mistakes
- If you change the trigger type on an active touchpoint, the new trigger may fire for constituents who already received the original touchpoint. To avoid duplicate outreach, pause the touchpoint while making changes and review the log before reactivating.
- Keep a changelog or note in the touchpoint description when making major edits. For example: Updated 3/10/2026: Changed milestone from $500 to $1,000.
- When editing email templates, always preview with sample data to confirm merge fields still populate correctly after your changes.
