How to Activate and Deactivate a Touchpoint

Overview

Touchpoints in Humanitru can be set to Active, Paused, or Dry Run mode. This guide explains how to switch between these modes and when each status is appropriate.

When to Use This Guide

Use this guide when you need to turn a touchpoint on or off, when you want to test a touchpoint in Dry Run mode before going live, or when you need to temporarily pause a touchpoint during a campaign transition.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Part A: Understand the Three Status Modes

  1. Active: The touchpoint is live. When the WHEN condition is met for any constituent, the THEN action executes automatically (email sent, task created, etc.).
  2. Paused: The touchpoint is configured but not running. No triggers will fire regardless of constituent activity. Use this when you need to temporarily stop an automation without deleting it.
  3. Dry Run: The touchpoint simulates triggers without executing the delivery action. Humanitru logs what would have happened, allowing you to verify the trigger logic and review simulated results before going live.

Part B: Change a Touchpoint's Status

  1. Navigate to Stewardship Automation in the left-hand navigation menu.
  2. Find the touchpoint you want to update in the list.
  3. Click the Icons on the touchpoint to change the status between Active, Paused, and Dry Run.
  4. The new status takes effect immediately.

Part C: Review Dry Run Results

  1. After running a touchpoint in Dry Run mode for several days, return to the touchpoint's configuration to review the simulation log.
  2. The log shows which constituents would have been triggered, what delivery action would have been taken, and the date and time of each simulated trigger.
  3. If the results look correct, switch the status to Active. If the trigger is too broad or too narrow, adjust the WHEN conditions before activating.

Pro Tips / Common Mistakes
  • Pause touchpoints during major database migrations or import processes. Bulk-importing historical donations could trigger dozens of touchpoints simultaneously if they are set to Active.
  • Use Dry Run for at least 3–5 days before switching to Active, especially for milestone-based triggers. This ensures you have enough data to validate the logic.
  • When deactivating a touchpoint permanently, consider whether you want to pause it (preserving the configuration for future use) or delete it entirely to keep your list clean.
