# Filter actions on the constituent profile

Use the filters on the **Action Timeline** to narrow a constituent's history to the actions you care about, such as donations from last month, actions you entered, or unverified actions. The At-A-Glance stats update to match your filters.

**Apply filters**

1. In the **Filters** section of the **Action Timeline**, choose options from **Actions**, **Action Date Range**, and **Input Date Range**.
2. To use more filters, select **Advanced Filter**.
3. Select **Filter**.

Your selections don't change the list until you select **Filter**. When you do, the Action Timeline and the At-A-Glance stats reload together.

As you make selections, blue chips appear below the top row of filters, such as **Donations** or **Action Date: Last Month**. The chips show everything you've selected, including selections you haven't applied yet. The **Actions** dropdown also shows how many action types you've selected, such as **Selected Action (2)**.

**Filter options**

| Filter | What it does | Options |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Actions** | Shows only the action types you select. You can select more than one. | All Actions, or specific types such as Donations, Membership Payments, RSVPs, Check Ins, Volunteer Hours, Emails Sent, Email Opens, Email Link Clicks, and Notes |
| **Action Date Range** | Filters by the date the action happened. | All Time, This Month, Last Month, This Year, Last Year, Custom |
| **Input Date Range** | Filters by the date the action was recorded in Alpine. | All Time, This Month, Last Month, This Year, Last Year, Custom |
| **Verification Status** (Advanced) | Shows verified or unverified actions. | All, Verified, Unverified |
| **Created By** (Advanced) | Shows actions entered by the users you select. You can select more than one and search by name. | All Users, or specific users |
| **Assigned To** (Advanced) | Shows actions assigned to the users you select. You can select more than one and search by name. | All assignees, Unassigned, or specific users |
| **Action Amount** (Advanced) | Shows actions within a dollar range. Enter a minimum, a maximum, or both. Both ends are included. | $ Min and $ Max |
| **Entity rules** (Advanced) | Includes or excludes actions that belong to a campaign or category. | Include or Exclude, then Campaigns or Category |

Select **Advanced Filter** to show or hide the Advanced options. The Advanced section stays open when you apply or clear filters, and only the **Advanced Filter** button closes it.

### **Action Date and Input Date**

The two date filters answer different questions. **Action Date** is when the interaction happened. **Input Date** is when someone recorded it in Alpine. For example, a donation received on December 1 and entered on December 5 has an Action Date of December 1 and an Input Date of December 5.

### **Use a custom date range**

1. In **Action Date Range** or **Input Date Range**, select **Custom**.
2. Enter a **Start Date** and an **End Date** in MM/DD/YYYY format, or choose dates from the calendar.
3. Select **Save**.

You can leave one date blank. A start date alone shows actions from that date onward, and an end date alone shows actions up to that date. The end date must be on or after the start date. To go back to all dates, clear both dates and select **Save**.

After you save a custom range, you can select its chip to edit it.

### **Filter by amount**

Only Donations, Membership Payments, and RSVPs have amounts. When you enter a minimum or a maximum, the timeline shows only those action types, and other types are hidden.

### **Include or exclude a campaign or category**

1. Select **Advanced Filter**.
2. Next to **I want to**, choose **Include** or **Exclude**.
3. In **Entity Type**, choose **Campaigns** or **Category**.
4. In **Select**, search for and choose the campaign or category.
5. Select **Filter**.

To add a second rule, select **+ Add Rule**. You can have up to two rules. Choose **And** to match actions that meet both rules, or **Or** to match actions that meet either one. The result of your rules is still combined with your other filters, so choosing Or won't show actions that your other filters exclude.

**How filters combine**

- Different filters work together. If you choose Donations and Last Month, you see donations from last month only.
- Choices within the same filter are alternatives. If you select Donations and Membership Payments, you see actions of either type. If you select Unassigned and two users in **Assigned To**, you see actions assigned to either of those users or to no one.

**Remove filters**

- **Remove one filter:** Select the **×** on its chip, then select **Filter** to update the list. Removing a chip doesn't change the list until you select **Filter**.
- **Remove all filters:** Select **Clear All**. This resets every filter and updates the list right away. **Clear All** is grayed out when no filters are applied.

Filters aren't saved. If you reload the page, leave the profile, or open a different constituent, the filters reset to All.

**Filters from other cards**

Some buttons on other cards apply a filter to the Action Timeline for you. They update the list right away and replace any filters you had set:

- **Membership Actions** on the Membership card
- **View Actions** on an opportunity
- **Opportunities Actions** on the Opportunities card
- **Pin Existing Note** on the Pinned Notes card

**What filters change on the profile**

- **Action Timeline:** Rows update when you select Filter. Select **Clear All** to see values for the constituent's full history.
- **Pinned Notes and other cards:** Pinned Notes, Profile Details, and the other cards don't change when you filter.

**Select and act on filtered actions**

Admins can select rows with the checkboxes and use the actions in the **Bulk Actions** menu. These actions apply only to the rows you select. Applying a new filter clears your selection.

The checkbox in the table header selects the actions loaded on screen, not every action that matches your filters.

**Export filtered actions**

1. Apply your filters.
2. Select **Export**.
3. Choose the fields to include.
4. Download the CSV.

The export uses the filters you've applied, not selections you haven't applied yet. If you select some rows first, only those rows are exported. If you don't select any rows, or you select all loaded rows, the export includes every action that matches your filters, including ones not yet loaded on screen.

**Sort order and loading**

- Actions are sorted newest first by Action Date. You can't change the sort order. Future-dated actions appear at the top.
- The timeline loads 50 actions at a time. Select **Load More** to see more.

**Who can do what**

Every role sees the same filters, but some filters can't return results for some roles:

- **Entry Only:** The timeline shows only actions you created, so choosing another user in **Created By** returns no actions. The **Campaigns** entity type isn't available to you.
- **Entry Only Plus:** You can't see Donations, Membership Payments, or RSVPs, so those action types and the **Action Amount** filter return no actions. The same limits apply to the At-A-Glance stats.

**If you don't see what you expect**

- **"No actions match these filters."** No actions fit your current filters. Remove a chip and select **Filter**, or select **Clear All**.
- **"No actions recorded for this constituent yet."** This constituent doesn't have any actions.
- **"We couldn't load this constituent's actions."** Select **Try Again**.
- **The list doesn't match your chips.** Chips show your selections even before you apply them. Select **Filter** to update the list.
